NEW BOILER
A much needed replacement boiler was installed in the clubhouse over the summer which will save our club thousands in heating costs and reduce our annual operational costs significantly. The new high-efficiency boiler is expected to pay for itself over the course of about 25 years (approx. $42,000) and puts to rest the worries of our old boiler failing in the dead of winter, thus possibly causing irreversible damage to our clubhouse and badminton courts. The new boiler not only heats our entire building, it now also provides us with our domestic hot water…no longer will we be showering in frigid temperatures during tournaments or other busy times of the season!
PATIO RENNOVATION
Thanks to the help of a handy-handful of Riverside volunteers, the club was able to expand our outside patio and increase our viewing pleasure! The cost of the operation was almost nil as no labour fees were incurred and the cost of materials were met by donations gathered at our Wimbledon Breakfast, along with a generous donation from the fine folks down at THE TRADING POST. Thanks to everyone who pitched in! Other fundraising ventures are being explored for other much needed club improvements.
We’re going green…even more!
Green is not just the color used most often in and around the clubhouse, we are actually seeking ways to become more environmentally friendly while reducing operational costs. In addition to our new high-efficiency boiler, Riverside is looking into alternatives for lighting on our badminton courts as our current system uses an incredible amount of energy in the form of heat loss. Other ways which our club is becoming greener includes a more efficient recycling program (which now includes paper), CFL bulbs throughout the clubhouse, and the possibility of motion sensors in both lockerrooms to turn the lights on when players enter and automatically turn them off when they are empty. Green is a color that Riverside wears well!
Refill your water bottles with ease
A new spout has been installed on our clubhouse water fountain to allow easy refilling of your water bottles. Furthermore, the water fountain behind badminton court #6 has been repaired and is in great working order.
NEW...BOX LEAGUES!
New to Riverside this year are two new leagues for the player with a busy schedule (similar in nature to our old ‘challenger-ladder’ with a few minor differences). In addition to our weekly evening & afternoon leagues, players can now participate in a SINGLES and/or DOUBLES league without a fixed day and time. Players are to register for each round (5 in total, starting on October 20, 2008) before being placed into one of many ‘pools’ of players. Each player/team must challenge all other players/teams in the pool within a certain time frame (i.e. 5 weeks) at a time convenient for both parties. Results are recorded on the League Info Bulletin Board and players move either up or down for the next round, depending on their final ranking for that particular round. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME DOUBLES TEAMS CAN PLAY TOGETHER AGAINST OTHER DOUBLES TEAMS IN A LEAGUE! This is great news for those teams who may be considering playing in Riverside’s Doubles Event March 21-22, 2009 (new event as well) as well as the Doubles Team Event held in Regina (January 24, 2009) and need to practice up for these events.
Canteen & Lounge
Several new items have been recently added to our already impressive selection of snacks, pop, juices, beer (domestic, import & non-alcoholic) and coolers. We proudly boast some of the cheapest prices in town so feel free to enjoy a cool beverage and a snack after some badminton or tennis! Riverside is currently exploring healthier alternatives to our snack and canteen menu (i.e. granola bars). Please contact management if you have any (feasible) health-conscious suggestions or requests.
